Beginning October 18, 2022, The Sims™ 4 base game will be free to play for all new players on PC (Windows/Mac) PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Here is an overview of the F2P offer and how limited or generous it may be depending on your own expectations.
About The Sims 4 Base Game
The Sims 4 base game has had a $40 price tag since launch and prior to its F2P transition coming on October 18, 2022. While the base game isn’t expected to contain any expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs or kits, as they are called, it still has a fair amount of entertaining gameplay and content, which include:
- Build Mode: used to edit a lot, including architectural and construction changes, and the addition of objects.
- Create A Sim: used to create a variety of unique Sims with distinct appearances, personalities, and emotions.
- The Gallery: used to see, share, and download community creations.
- Worlds: collections of individual neighborhoods in which you can build your house and make your sims move into for as many generations as you like.
That said, the base game will probably get you bored after a wee while, considering most of the content added since the 2014 release is only available through separate purchases.
The Sims 4 Paid Content
EA Play and EA Play Pro members will receive an upgraded experience when member-only bundles of The Sims 4 go into The Play List on October 18. The Sims 4 EA Play Edition includes The Sims 4 Get To Work Expansion Pack, while the EA Play Pro Edition includes both The Sims 4 Get To Work Expansion Pack and The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack. On top of that, dozens of expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs and kits can be purchased to make the game more diverse and engaging in the long run.
EA will be sharing more about what’s in the works during a special-edition stream titled Behind The Sims Summit on October 18, 2022 at 10 am PDT via The Sims YouTube and Twitch channels.
