Broken Ranks is a free to play* MMORPG for PC (Mac and Mobile versions planned) by Polish studio Whitemoon Games. The game is a successor to popular MMORPG The Pride of Taern. It features 7 Classes (barbarian, archer, sheed, druid, voodoo shaman, fire mage or knight), a unique turn-based combat system, Guilds (including land purchase and headquarters construction), PVP and PVE gameplay, and a vast world seen from an isometric view. The title is reminiscent of such classics as Heroes of Might and Magic and Baldur’s Gate. Adventurers will be able to find a lot of captivating story-driven quests and a vast, interesting world ready to be explored alone, in a group, or with guildmates.
Game Plot
Broken Ranks is a story about uniting a scattered nation. It is the tale of a refugee searching for their place in a new world. It is the history of a hero who needs to find strength to restore what the invaders took away from them. It is the record of a brutal reality that brings not only challenges but also opportunities.
Free-to-Play Model
*Broken Ranks is a Free to Play (F2P) game with optional purchases aimed at unlocking added features or speeding up acquirement thereof. The game features a premium currency called platinum that is mainly used to change character appearance (with various skins) but players are free to trade platinum between themselves for items or gold earned in the game. The publisher maintains that there’s no imperative need to spend money on the game, and that it is not P2W (pay to win). This model makes it easier to enjoy the game as a free player and also boosts the game economy. Whitemoon Games has specified that “their item shop doesn’t include any items that give players a huge advantage over others. Gear can only be gained by fighting bosses, special mobs or by trading with other players. Most other items can be crafted and the time to make them (instead of buying them with premium currency) is often insignificant.”
