A new free to play MMO warfare game, Warlander, was announced today by Plaion and Toylogic (NieR Replicant). Gameplay will include skirmishes and castle sieges in third-person view. Open beta starts on PC (Windows) on September 12. Console versions planned.
What’s Warlander about
Warlander is a free-to-play, third-person, online multiplayer warfare game set in a medieval fantasy world. Up to a hundred players will be able to join up as warriors, clerics, or mages, battling it out as part of two or five armies in skirmishes and castle sieges with the goal of breaking into the opponents’ stronghold and destroying its core. Players will have the option to build up decks of “finely customized characters” in terms of skill, ability and look (possibly a pay to win element?). There will be two game modes available at launch: a two-team mode with up to 40 players and a five-team mode with up to 100 players.
The game will launch on PC first followed by consoles shortly after.
“From the beginning, our mission was to create a game players will fall in love with after the first match. Be it the strategic challenge, the thrill of the combat or the excitement of creating that perfect character deck, we wanted to make Warlander for everyone. A game that doesn’t only offer competitive fun every time you spawn but one that requires true leadership skills and tactics to master” – said Yoichi Take, Game Director and President of Toylogic.”
Upcoming Open Beta
An Open Beta testing phase is due to occur on PC (Windows) as early as Monday, September 12th, 2022 via Steam (store.steampowered.com/app/1675900/Warlander/). Players will be able to sign up, try and join the community while helping shape the game’s future. There may be issues reaching said Steam page at the moment, maybe due to a totally different game having the exact same name (both games have different links though in order to prevent this kind of issue).
