Striker Superstars was an online browser multiplayer football game where YOU were the star. There were a number of match options available to you, the Tutorial, Practice (3 a-side with A.I), Cash Prize (all human 5 a-side) and Quick Match (5 a-side with a mix of A.I & human). The game controls were based on the traditional FPS keyboard & mouse layout and the aim was simple, play football, win matches, train your player and become a superstar. Getting into the action was as simple. Once you had created your avatar, named them join your desired server and you would enter the lobby. Here you could see a number of opportunities, the most important of which was the ‘PLAY’ button, click this and choose multiplayer or practice matches to begin your career.
GamePlay
Striker Superstars was truly unique in that every player on the pitch could be human (with the exception of the goal keeper). The optimum view is 3rd person view where you’re in the thick of the action and for those who prefer a more traditional view press 9 to switch to the top down view.
Anyone familiar with a first person shooter will feel right at home with the 3rd person controls, you do however need to know a few key elements of game play, you can find these within the options menu and the keyboard layout is shown prior to every match.
At the base of your player you may see a coloured halo, when this turns red you have been passed to so prepare for an inbound ball, when in control of the ball the player nearest your targeting receptacle or ‘intelli-cursor’ will become the pass target for you, press the space bar to attempt to pass to them or you may choose to kick the ball towards them with the left mouse button.
When your intelli-cursor changes red you will be on target for a shot on your opponents goal, left click and hold for power, then release to take a shot. There is a single left click which will shoot the ball at full-power keep in mind that this will compromise your level of accuracy.
When in control of the ball move the intelli cursor above the pitch horizon to perform a lob or high kick, point at the destination of the pitch you wish the ball to travel to and left click for a ground pass or kick.
Sometimes you may need a burst of speed to either evade a defender or reach the ball ahead of an opponent striker, in these cases hold the SHIFT key while moving to increase your movement speed, be careful though, sprinting will use up precious stamina which will return over time, stamina is used slowly when on the ball and regenerates fastest when you stand still. When out of stamina all actions suffer a penalty.
